Alpine Mummy

A new life in the middle of nowhere

Me…

City lawyer, making the most of my maternity leave living in a chalet in a tiny village in the Alps and blogging about the funny (and not so funny) bits. Walks and fresh air are now the order of the day – bye bye smog, hello mountains…

Believe it or not (and many people who know me do not in fact believe it) I am a solicitor in a rather large City law firm in London.  I spend my days (or I did until recently) advising companies on how not to get sued, and assisting those companies who have been sued (hopefully because they have not followed, rather than followed, my advice…).  I wore suits and shirts, drank cappuccinos in Starbucks and spent hours commuting to and from the City and West London (and many more hours moaning about commuting).

All that changed when I became pregnant for the second time and me and Alpine Papa decided to spend my maternity leave in a chalet in a tiny village in the Alps.  I now wear denim cut-offs and old vest-tops, drink cold cups of tea (Alpine Girl always manages to need changing/feeding/amusing every time I make a cuppa – it’s a skill she has been honing), and spend hours walking in the mountains with my beautiful children.  It’s all a bit of a shock to the system, and I’m still getting used to it, but so far so good!

I now have two children – Alpine Boy is 3 and a half and Alpine Girl is just over 3 months.  Alpine Papa is French and has just given up the life of a lawyer to work as an estate agent here in the Alps (mainly so he can go ski-ing every weekend in the winter I think).  This blog is about our new life here in the middle of nowhere, and about me getting used to being a stay-at-home mum-of-two rather than a City high-flier.  Not sure how long the blog will last (I was never very good at Dear Diary when I was younger…) and I’m sure it won’t be that interesting, but here goes!
